Good Friday is the Friday before Easter, when Christians remember Jesus’ crucifixion. This day is also the last day of Lent, when believers fast and abstain from eating meat. On Good Friday, there is no Mass, only Stations of the Cross and the guarding of the Holy Tomb. In churches, the bells fall silent and only ring again on Saturday evening.

Good Friday not only signifies sorrow and mourning but also hope and joy, as Jesus’ death redeemed humanity from sin and death. Therefore, on this day, we can celebrate in a meaningful way if we maintain respect and dignity. Here are some ideas on how we can do this:

– Let’s read or listen to the Gospel that describes Jesus’ passion. Let’s try to feel his pain and love for us.

– Participate in the Stations of the Cross, where we follow Jesus’ stations. If we cannot go to church, we can also perform this prayer at home with the help of a picture book or an online video.

– Visit the Holy Tomb, which is set up in the church or a nearby chapel. Light a candle or place flowers at Jesus’ tomb.

– Maintain silence and meditate on Jesus’ life and teachings. Avoid noisy and cheerful activities, such as watching TV or listening to music. Instead, let’s read a good book or talk with our family members or friends.

– Consume simple and light foods, such as soups, salads, or fish. Avoid alcohol and sweets. This also expresses our fasting and self-restraint.

– Prepare a small gift or surprise for Easter. It can be a hand-painted egg, a homemade pastry, or a kind message. This way, we can show our love and joy to others.

Good Friday is a serious and profound celebration that does not exclude a festive spirit. If we follow these ideas, we can experience Jesus’ closeness and peace on this day as well.
